The GME AIST120 is a Class B AIS transceiver that broadcasts the vessel's identity, position, speed and course to other AIS equipped vessels, and receives the same data from Class A and Class B vessels, aids to navigation and base stations nearby.
Position, speed over ground and course over ground come from the built in 50 channel GPS receiver (IEC 61108-1 compliant), so no external GPS feed is needed when the unit is mounted with a clear view of the sky. Where it is mounted below decks or under metal, an optional external GPS antenna connects via the TNC socket. The dual channel receiver monitors both AIS channels continuously.
Data is output on a high speed NMEA 0183 port (38,400 baud) for chart plotters and NMEA 2000 (LEN 1) for networked systems, with a second low speed NMEA 0183 input for multiplexing other sensor data through to the plotter. A USB connection allows configuration from a PC or Mac. Silent mode stops the unit transmitting while it continues to receive, switched from the software or an optional external latching switch.
The unit is IPX7 rated, tested to the IEC 60945 protected category, and draws an average of 170 mA at 12V. It connects to a standard marine VHF antenna via an SO-239 socket, either a dedicated antenna or an existing one shared through an AIS compatible antenna splitter.
Supplied with a 2 m power and data cable, four mounting screws, a quick start guide and the instruction manual. Backed by a 1 year GME warranty.
Suits coastal and offshore boats that want to be seen by commercial traffic as well as see it, particularly for night running and poor visibility. The vessel's MMSI and static data must be programmed before the unit will transmit, and the vessel needs a current VHF licence that lists the AIS system.
Features:
Note: An MMSI number must be programmed into the unit before it will transmit. A VHF antenna is required and is not included.
