The Ocean Signal rescueME PLB3 is a major advancement in personal locator beacons, combining 406 MHz global distress alerting with AIS local rescue messaging, Return Link Service (RLS), and Near Field Communication (NFC) in one compact device. This unique combination maximises rescue effectiveness by alerting both worldwide search and rescue authorities and nearby vessels simultaneously.
As the world’s first PLB with AIS, NFC smartphone connectivity, and RLS confirmation, the PLB3 gives users reassurance that their distress message has been received and their location detected. Operating on the Cospas-Sarsat satellite system, the PLB3 transmits a 406 MHz distress signal with GNSS positioning (GPS, Galileo, and Glonass) accurate to within 100 metres, alongside a 121.5 MHz homing signal to guide rescuers on arrival.
Integrated AIS transmission sends a safety message or MOB alarm directly to AIS-equipped vessels within VHF range, dramatically improving rescue speed by displaying the beacon as an active target on nearby AIS screens. A high-intensity white strobe and infrared strobe further assist visual detection in low-light or poor visibility conditions.
NFC technology allows users to access detailed beacon data via the Ocean Signal mobile app, including battery status, test history, activation time, and GNSS performance, simply by holding a smartphone near the device. The Return Link Service provides visual confirmation via a flashing blue light when rescue services acknowledge the alert.
Designed for versatility, the PLB3 can be installed in a life jacket for semi-automatic activation upon inflation or attached externally using the supplied webbing clip, delivering confidence, comfort, and peace of mind in critical situations.
